Dodge
will probably end the life cycle of the Viper, one of the most famous supercars
of America, in 2017.
According
to the union contract between the United Auto Workers union (UAW) and Fiat
Chrysler Automobiles, this group seems to not launch any vehicle to replace the
current version of the Dodge Viper. This agreement also proposes closing Conner
Avenue plant where the Viper have been manufactured manually during 1995 to
present. When Conner Avenue factory no longer exists, it is unclear to talk
about the fate of the Vipe.
Dodge Viper
Viper
also once faced to death in 2010, when Dodge debuted and sold is 20 final
versions of the old Dodge. A few months later, Sergio Marchione - CEO of Fiat
Chrysler Automobiles (maker of Dodge car brand) launched a new Dodge. But since
Dodge Viper put back into production in 2013, the future of this car has become
much more bleak. Sales in 2014 increased slightly due to reduced price of
15,000 dollars, but finally, Dodge only sold 760 Viper cars in 2014 and 503
units in 2015, up to the present time. The
fierce competition from Chevrolet Corvette is one of the major reasons to put
Viper in difficulty.
In
October 2015, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has cut down the production of the
Viper to 2/3 and even temporarily stop producing this car in 2014. This
situation made more than 90 employees lose their jobs. This time, Fiat Chrysler
Automobiles seems to stop producing Viper in order to focus on the Charger
Hellcat which is 20.000 USD cheaper than a Viper one. At the same time, Fiat
Chrysler Automobiles also expressed their desire to leave the car market. Last
week, the group has cut off all the relationship with Ferrari when this Italy
supercar maker registered the IPO.
